Dallara and BMW reveal their bold new street legal car, which in collaboration with the FIA, will also provide the first car to be used in the upcoming Formula X championship, a single-make support series complementing the existing Formula 1 championship, in which the Formula 1 drivers compete in equal machinery providing additional entertainment to the traditional races.

The FX/17 is designed primarily to provide the highest levels of entertainment, whether sweeping through some winding B-roads, or going wheel-to-wheel in the hands of the world’s best drivers in front of a global audience. Whilst F1 is the fastest, the pinnacle of motor racing technology, and piloted by some of the greatest drivers, on track action often lags behind what the drivers are truly capable of given the opportunity.

Formula X takes a different approach.

The aim of Formula X is to provide pure motor racing entertainment for fans around the world, whilst also bringing new levels of fan interaction to the fore.

The design brief was simple; provide an entertaining package suitable for road and track with minimal modification.
The requirements of the Formula X championship were to provide a contrasting experience to Formula 1, and must put the focus firmly back with the drivers. Therefore the FX/17 has much lower grip levels, both mechanically and aerodynamically – and all drivers run with identical setups, giving drivers the best platform to prove themselves.
